In Duniter instance on the Fediverse?, Hugo kindly offered to use a duniter.org subdomain by its own initiative to host a free social network.

I get your point but my answer to “how can a duniter owned social network help for development?” is SPREADING THE WORD. That’s one of the social network’s goals.

Like, for example, kde.social, where some kde apps live: Mastodon

The question is: Should Duniter spread its word out of our niche, To attract other developers and users?

That can already be done without social.duniter.org, and it has already been done for a long time. There are a lot more tags out there.
To your last question, of course it should be done! That’s how we managed to get so popular

We have discussed the creation of this social network HERE, in this forum, and that’s why is USING duniter.org domain! So I think it should mean it is an initiative of Duniter collective!

Creating social.duniter.org wasn’t clearly and officially stated by Duniter project. One Duniter contributor offered to use a Duniter subdomain. That’s it. This fund works with its own rules.

I don’t find room for a social network in current acceptance criteria for remuneration:

Rules of eligibility to remuneration

Eligibility to remuneration does not automatically unlocks the right to remuneration. The staff reserves the right not to integrate an eligible contributor.

Only the contributions to projects satisfying the following conditions are eligible to remuneration:

• The project must be under a “copyleft” libre license in the case of a software; under CC BY-SA in the case of a content (website, article, wiki, etc.)
• The project’s source code must be public on a git forge (ideally our GitLab, or another public forge).
• The project must be decentralized and without any trusted third party.
• The project must relate to at least one of the following subjects:
  • Use of a G1 account (create an identity, renew a membership, revoke an account, make a transaction)
  • Visualization of blockchain data (statistics, WoT graph, etc.)
  • Duniter team infrastructure management (forum servers, GitLab, official mirror nodes)
  • Contribution to one of the official websites: duniter.org , monnaie-libre.fr, cesium.app, silkaj.duniter.org …
  • Creation or improvement of official documents: Ğ1 monetary and smith licenses, RTM, White paper, protocol and RFCs
  • Ğ1 wallet management (Gsper, Dunikey, etc.)

If some project seems legitimate to us but does not satisfy the above criteria, we may update them. That would only happen on a case-by-case basis and on the initiative of a staff member.

As stated at the end, they could be changed. But, it won’t be solved just with the two of us. Other Duniter contributors have to give their point of view, and possibly argue.

We can revert it and close it, if community don’t like it (as a duniter tool) but, if not, I think we should (symbolically) support it.

Don’t take it personally, we should set a limit to this funding otherwise we can found the World with it. Should this fund fund our lovely Valencian Ğ1ist who are struggling with the flooding? What about funding ĞMarkets? They are contributing to Ğ1 economical development. Yeah, but no! People gave to this public key to fund Duniter/Ğ1 technical ecosystem development. We have to use this money for this purpose.

I have nothing against someone hosting a social network for Ğ1 community. That’s a very nice thing!
